Drum&Bass History: Photek & Source Direct - Anno 1996

Anno 1996 waren sie die Metalheadz-Helden und wurden von großen Labels hofiert. Für die Vorschüsse haben sie sich Häuschen und Sportwagen gekauft. Partymuffel, College-Abbrecher und merkwürdige Eigenbrötler mit Fusion-Jazz-Vorlieben. Die bleichen, spindeldürren Jungspunde langweilten sich auf dem Lande abseits von Londons "Inner City Life" und hatten nur Beats, Weed und schnelle Autos im Kopf. Es ist schon so lange her, ich kann mich kaum daran erinnern, aber mal ehrlich: Waren wir früher auch so??! Wenn ja, wäre das eine Erklärung, wieso so wenig getanzt wurde... Was für großartige Musik.

4Hero and their different monikers

 

When it comes to Electronic Soul Music Dego Mac Farlaine & Marc Mac aka 4Hero are in my view one of the most versatile & influential producers of our times. If you are familiar only with their work as "4Hero" this may sound a bit over the top. But I think you will get an idea of what I mean when you take a look at the brilliant music they made as: Jacob's Optical Stairway, Manix, Maximum Style, Natures Plan, Nu Era, Cousin Cockroach, Mr Good Good, Nutmeg, Pavel Kostiuk, Tek 9, Tom&Jerry, Visioneers etc. 

Maybe it would have been better for them to release their music under max. 1-3 moniker instead of "hiding" their work behind all those different names. But I think besides that no one showed better that it's more about the vibe of the music than a genre or a specific tempo...

Jus Wan - "Miles Away" out now

Here's a soulful tune produced by Chris Werner from Cologne, a very good friend who belongs to the Interference family since day one. He's a natural born drummer playing in different bands. It doesn't matter what style, he masters almost everything from Country to Hardcore. Naturally, Drum&Bass is no trouble for him. Miss Merrisa Campbell aka Cooly G (Hyperdub, Dub Organizer) hat, als sie Anfang des Jahres zum ersten Mal in Köln war, alle die damals im Stadtgarten waren restlos begeistert. Einer ihrer rar gesäten Mixe hat mich wieder in diese Nacht zurück versetzt. Cooly G spielt auch hier soulful und deep bis rotzig und funky. Für alle, die ihren Dubstep gerne sexy und schön warm mögen. Oder warum sollte man es nicht gleich "House" nennen?!
